Since I love to travel and experience new cultures and traditions, these are the countries and places I’d like to visit some day:
1. Mali, and then specifically the cities Ségou and Timbuktu.
I want to visit these cities mainly because one of my favorite books, Segu by Maryse Condé, is set in those two important Malian cities. I want to touch the city walls, wander through the cities and wonder if three hundred years ago my ancestors did the same. It’s a pity though. Some of the places I want to visit haven’t been the safest, and Timbuktu is one of these unsafe cities. And they usually become unsafe right after I express interest in visiting them. Le sigh.
2. Senegal: I honestly don’t have a specific reason for why I want to visit Senegal. I just know that I want to.
3. Ghana: I mainly want to visit Ghana because of the historical and cultural ties my country has with the region that we now call Ghana.
4. Nigeria, and then specifically Northern Nigeria. This is another example of a region that’s becoming increasingly unsafe. My interest in this part of the world got triggered after I saw pictures of the Durbar festival in Kano. Just beautiful… And the combination of men with turbans on horses? Gets me every time..:-)
5. Angola and the Cape Verdian Islands because of the music.
6. One of the Swahili countries. Preferably Tanzania and/or the Comoro islands.
7.Ethiopia: As someone from a very Caribbean South American country, I was raised with a lot of reggae music and elements of the Rastafari religion. So I have to visit “the land of Jah Rastafari” at least once right? Must visits are the city of Harrar and the Lalibela churches.

8. Sudan: Sudan actually has more pyramids than Egypt, so this country is definitely on my list of places to visit.
9. I really want to visit more Caribbean islands. Haiti, Trinidad, St. Lucia, Cuba, Jamaica.
Now, I love to travel, but I’m not a fan of flying. In the Caribbean you can island hop by means of a cruise ship. But to be honest, cruising isn’t really my type of vacation. You hardly get enough time to explore the country or the true authentic culture of the people. Unless of course I would somehow be able to rent a yacht, travel from port to port, and explore as long as I wanted to.
Aah,…dreaming doesn’t hurt right?

Hello, Anaelrich. I was having the same thought as you: all the beautiful places one would want to visit have become quite unsafe. I would love to go to Egypt, for example and Sudan is a good alternative but then both countries are not welcoming anymore. We have to go where we can as soon as possible before ignorance and hate and selfishness take the whole world over! I was able to see the Durbar Festival in Kano, though, some years back, and it was truly a great experience!

Great list you have up there.
You will love Kano, I have never seen the Durbar festival life but I did witness Emir of Kano once on his horse all dressed up in colourful robe coming to the palace. The city has a lot historical interesting places i.e old Kano, tie and dye pits etc.
Fingers crossed, Boko Haram will be a thing of the past soonest.

Yes, I hope they will If the news reports are true, they’ve already been reduced drastically. So let’s hope that they will be indeed something of the past. Take care..:-)

It is a tough battle. Pres. Buhari has tasked the armed forces to end Boko Haram in three months – it is a tall order but we are hoping the president has got enough trusted international supports behind him. Fingers crossed for us.

Actually, modern Ghana does nothing to do with Ghana empire but still it is a very nice country. Ghana empire was situated on Maninke territory (Guinea, Mali, Senegal).

I like your “Write it down, make it happen” series. Your choice in a partner and the places you would to vist. All the places you had mention are places that I would like to visit as well…one day I hope that it will be safe to travel to these places.
